HP SMART APP

HP App no longer allows any actions with .docx files previously uploaded to the document folder. That is I cannot preview, open, print or email these files. How I can get these files back please?

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand you need information using .docx files on the HP App,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you check what formats are supported by this application?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do,

Review your mobile device for more information about the file formats the HP app supports:

  • Apple iOS devices: Photos (JPEG, PNG), PDF and Microsoft Office Suite documents, text (TXT) files, and saved webpages. You can also print photos and PDF documents from Google Drive, Dropbox, Facebook, and Instagram.

Thanks.
When this was the AiO app you could save email Word attachments in its documents folder.
Now that the app has evolved into HP Smart I can still see the Word files listed in the folder but can do nothing with them; there is no option to preview, open, email etc.

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I'm afraid that's just the way the application has been designed,

And there's nothing more we can do about the same but wait for updates from R&D Team.

I have forwarded your concern to them, thank you.

I hope that answers your query!

Right.
And you’re working on behalf of HP.
So you’re aware that HP’s original printing app - the AiO one - allowed you to save and access word documents.
Now, you’re saying HP have decided I can no longer access those files when all I did was trust in HP’s updates.
Doesn’t feel right let alone ethical.
What happens if with its next update HP decides that I can’t access pdf files any longer? Will that be “just the way it’s designed”?
Are they not other users thinking this is pretty outrageous?

@NKL9FC

Thank you for responding,

There seems to be a misunderstanding,

As mentioned earlier, the application supports the documents but since you are not able to make use of the same, I have forwarded your concern to the R&D team to have an appropriate solution to fix the application installed on your device.

Meanwhile, I also suggest that you remove and re-install the program from the HP website and check if it works,

I was under the impression that you've gone through the link I had shared earlier on using the HP Smart App.

Please check the link and its instructions again, if it helps and get back to me, if the re-installation of the app didn't help either.

Here's my words from the last post: Apple iOS devices: Photos (JPEG, PNG), PDF and Microsoft Office Suite documents, text (TXT) files, and saved webpages. You can also print photos and PDF documents from Google Drive, Dropbox, Facebook, and Instagram.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

There does seem to be a misunderstanding.
I said the problem was with Wird documents.
Your first reply refers to Word (Microsoft) documents being supported on the app.
I explain I can’t now access these documents and you tell me that’s the way it is.
The link doesn’t make any reference to Word documents problems.
Nor does it say about deleting and reinstalling the app.
If I do that surely I just lose all the files including the Word documents?

@NKL9FC

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I recommend you create a backup of all the documents and files,

using an online cloud based storage or an external storage and then initiate the re-installation process.

Normally, that should resolve the issue, please let me know if it doesn't, so we can look for other options.
