Hi everyone! My HP printer is having trouble recognizing new ink cartridges. I’ve tried reinstalling them and cleaning the contacts, but the issue persists. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @jackoliver,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer isn't recognizing new ink cartridges, here are some steps you can try.

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure the cartridges are the correct model for your printer.
  • Inspect Cartridges: Make sure the protective tape or plastic is completely removed from the cartridges.
  • Clean Contacts: You mentioned cleaning the contacts, but make sure you do it carefully using a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol to remove any residue.
  • Reset the Printer: Power off the printer, unplug it for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the cartridges again and reinstall them, ensuring they click into place securely.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer that might resolve compatibility issues.
  • Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, test with another set of cartridges to rule out a defect.

Hopefully, one of these solutions will help get your printer working again!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
