When I try to print from HP Smart for IOS on my Envy 5540 an A4 document, it always says "Tray empty or open" because I don't have paper in the photo tray.
This doesn't happen in Windows or even in IOS if I print directly without using HP Smart, but the app gives you some better tool to resize the output so I need it.
I don't know how an app could be designed is such a poor way not to check for the default tray or accept that a not needed tray is empty.
Before I get the usual silly questions:
- printer, phone and anything else is on the last sw or firmware version (2023A)
- the printer default tray is the correct one in the settings (A4), but HP Smart lacks a "Default tray"
- while printing I correctly select the A4 format from HP Smart options and just in case I tested with an A4 pdf
- tested on multiple HP
- HP Scan Doctor is useless for mobile issues, since from Windows everything is OK with this printer
- no i don't have photo paper to load and I don't want to buy it because HP is not able to develop a decent APP
- no i won't reset my phone(s) , this is the same on any phone I tried
- yes I uninstalled and reinstalled and reset the printer several time

I am having the same exact issue & have tried everything possible & it’s impossible to get ahold of anyone at HP to figure this out.. I was wondering if you ever got any answers to this problem or figured it out? If so can you please share?!

I just surrendered, cut a normal paper sheet in smaller pieces to simulate the photographic paper format and put them in the photo tray so the printer thinks I loaded those useless and expensive glossy flyers.
Now the printers works normally with HP Smart, but really... I have never seen such poor programming ever.
