I need to know what happens to a document that is sent to via ePrint but doesn't actually make it to the printer. In my case I got a notification that my document had been received by the server but it was never printed despite the printer being on and attached to the network. Under those circumstances, what happens to the document. Is it still on the server waiting for something to happen or does it get deleted after a specific amount of time if not successfully printed?

My Opinion:

HP knows the time frame for document retention and the reasons for which a document might be saved.  Like other companies, HP does not share this information with anyone outside of the company.

There is no reason for the server to keep a print document for any extended amount of time.

Saving millions of documents on servers for any reason at all requires resources (space, management, protection).  Resources are managed for the best balance - documents must be protected against loss while in the care of the server, documents must remain on the server long enough to fulfill their function (to be forwarded across the Internet to your printer to be printed).  After that, documents are "space hogs" - unneeded documents are likely quickly deleted to make room for other jobs.

Thanks for your reply. What you say makes sense. So I'm wondering if I can now rest assured that the document I wanted to print has been deleted off the server, even though it didn't actually reach my printer? My concern is because the document had some personal details. I won't be print anything like that again via ePrint, that's for sure.
