Hi @jjhern,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer is showing the HP Direct address in the print dialogue box, it means it is connecting via HP's Direct Wi-Fi feature instead of your regular Wi-Fi network. This can cause issues with printing if your MacBook Air is not properly configured to communicate with the printer over this direct connection.
Here are the steps to ensure your printer is connected to the regular Wi-Fi network and not the HP Direct connection:
Check Printer Network Connection
On the Printer Control Panel:
- Tap the Wireless icon or open the Network settings.
- Check if the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. The network name (SSID) should match your home network.
Reconfigure Wi-Fi Connection:
- If it’s not connected to your home network, tap on Settings > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Follow the prompts to reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Remove HP Direct from MacBook Air
Remove HP Direct Printer:
- Open System Preferences on your MacBook Air.
- Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Select the printer showing the HP Direct address and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
Add Printer with Regular Wi-Fi:
- In the Printers & Scanners window, click the plus (+) button to add a new printer.
- Ensure your printer is powered on and connected to your regular Wi-Fi network.
- Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 from the list of available printers (ensure it’s showing the correct Wi-Fi network, not the HP Direct).
- Follow the prompts to add the printer.
Test Printing
- Print a Test Page:
- Open any document on your MacBook Air.
- Try printing to the newly added printer.
- Ensure the correct printer (with the regular Wi-Fi address) is selected in the print dialogue box.
By following these steps, your printer should be correctly connected to your Wi-Fi network, and you should be able to print from your MacBook Air without issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
