Hi @MzHillard2

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve the communication problem.

1. Check Network Connection

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network > Wireless Settings to confirm the connection.
  • Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network by selecting Wireless Setup Wizard and choosing your network from the list.

Test the Signal Strength: Ensure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router. Sometimes the signal may not reach all areas of the home, leading to connection issues.

Check for Wi-Fi interference: Other devices, such as microwaves or thick walls, can cause signal interference. Try relocating the printer closer to the router to see if this helps.

2. Restart the Printer and Router

  • Power off the printer and router, wait for about 30 seconds, and then power them both back on.
  • After restarting the devices, check if the printer can connect to the network.

3. Check Printer’s IP Address

  • Ensure that the printer has a valid IP address on your network.
  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Network > View Wireless Network Test Report. This will display the printer’s IP address and network status. Make sure it is correctly assigned and connected.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • You can update the firmware by either using the HP Smart App or by visiting the HP Support website and entering your printer model to check for updates.

5. Check Printer’s Connection on Your Device

  • Reinstall Printer Software: If the printer is not responding to print commands, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers/software on your computer. This will help reset any communication errors between your computer and the printer.
  • Set as Default Printer: Ensure that the HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is set as the default printer on your computer.
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners on Windows, find your printer, and select Set as default.

6. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the tool, which will automatically detect and fix problems with printing and scanning.

7. Check for Conflict with Other Devices

  • Try disconnecting any other devices that might be using the printer, and see if that helps.

8. Try a Wired Connection (Ethernet)

  • If Wi-Fi connectivity continues to be unreliable, consider connecting the printer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. This can provide a more stable connection.
  • To switch to a wired connection, go to the printer’s Network Settings and select Wired (Ethernet) Setup.

9. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  • If all else fails, try resetting the printer’s network settings to default and setting it up again from scratch.
    • On the printer, go to Setup > Network > Restore Network Settings. Afterward, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
