@Scottftlc, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e printer isn't printing from your iPad over Wi-Fi, there are a few things we can check. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue:

Check Printer and iPad Wi-Fi Connection

Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPad. If the printer is on a different network, it won’t be able to receive the print job.

You can check this on the printer’s control panel: go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi to ensure it’s connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Check iPad's Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that your iPad is also connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and confirm the network name.

Restart Devices

Restart the Printer: Power it off, wait 10 seconds, and then power it back on.

Restart the iPad: Hold the power button until the "slide to power off" option appears, turn it off, and then turn it back on after a few seconds.'

Ensure Printer is Ready

Check if there are any error lights or messages on the printer’s display.

Make sure there is paper loaded, the ink cartridges are not empty, and there are no paper jams.

Check if the printer is in sleep mode; if so, try to wake it up by pressing any button on the printer.

Check AirPrint Compatibility

Your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e supports AirPrint, which is Apple’s native printing protocol. Ensure your iPad supports AirPrint and that it’s working correctly.

On the iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth to check if AirPrint is enabled.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Re-add Printer in iPad’s Printer Settings

Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and find your printer listed there.

Remove the printer from your devices list and try adding it back again.

Try again to print after re-adding.

Reset Printer’s Network Settings

If the printer still won’t connect, you may need to reset the printer’s network settings:

Go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults.

After resetting, reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi by following the setup prompts.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
