After the latest firmware update of the HP OfficeJet Pro 9014e, I can no longer print from Android via IPP to the printer.

Also, when searching for printers, my printer does not appear.

The printer and the Android device are both in different VLANs.

mDNS is enabled on the switch, and it has always worked before.

In addition, when I add the printer via Android Default Print Services, I can only print once; after that, the printer is no longer available.

The same issue occurs with the HP Print Service app.

Does anyone have any idea?

What I have already tried: reset the printer and reconfigured Bonjour.

Hi @IT-Knowledge,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel the frustration in your message, and you're right to be concerned. When your HP OfficeJet Pro 9014e suddenly stops printing from Android after a firmware update, especially across VLANs, it’s not just a tech hiccup; it’s a disruption to your workflow and peace of mind.

Let’s walk through this together:

Steps to Try Next

1. Enable IPP and Bonjour in EWS

  • Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of your printer:
    • Type the printer’s IP address into a browser.
  • Go to Network > Advanced Settings.
  • Ensure IPP/IPPS, Bonjour, and Multicast DNS (mDNS) are enabled.

2. Check VLAN Routing and Firewall

  • Ensure your switch/router allows mDNS traffic across VLANs.
  • Some firmware updates may require IGMP snooping or the mDNS reflector to be reconfigured.

3. Use Static IP and DNS

  • Assign a static IP to the printer.
  • Set DNS manually (e.g., 8.8.8.8 or your local DNS server).
  • This helps Android devices resolve the printer consistently.

4. Update HP Print Service Plugin

  • Make sure your Android device has the latest version of the HP Print Service Plugin.
    • HP Print Service Plugin on Google Play

5. Try Wi-Fi Direct Temporarily

  • Enable Wi-Fi Direct on the printer.
  • Connect the Android directly to the printer’s Wi-Fi.
  • This bypasses VLAN issues and confirms if the printer itself is functioning.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
