HP LaserJet 1022
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My LaserJet 1022 (Product number is Q5912A) works fine on the PC that it is connected to via USB cable but not recognized on the network.

I have followed all of the windows printer sharing instructions.  HP's product detection routine could not find it either.

I had to enter the Product Number and serial number manually into that program.

On my laptop that I'm trying connect I can see the desktop that the printer is attached to but no printer is available to select to install.    Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

@Djoest, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Follow the steps below-

How to share a printer on Windows 10

To connect a USB printer to a Wi-Fi network without extra accessories, you can use Windows 10 “printer sharing”, here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Click on Devices.

  3. Select your printer from the list.

  4. Click the Manage button.

    Printer settings

  5. Click the Printer properties link.

  6. Open the Sharing tab.

  7. Click the Change Share Options button.

Change sharing options

  8. Check the Share this printer option.

  9. Change the printer share name as needed, but not required.

  10. Click Apply.

  11. Click OK to complete the task.

Once you completed the steps, your USB printer will now be available in the network for anyone to connect and use.

How to install a shared printer on Windows 10

Installing a shared printer is an easy process, but it’s not the same as it would be to install a wireless printer.

To install a printer that you’re sharing in the network on another computer, do the following:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Click on Devices.

  3. Click the Add printer & scanner button.

  4. Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.

  5. Check the Select a shared printer by name option.

  6. Type the network path to the printer. For example, \\computerName\printerName. You can also use the IP address for the computer sharing the printer if for some reason the name doesn’t work.

  7. Click Next.

Select a shared printer by name

Select a shared printer by name

  8. Leave the default printer name.

  9. Click Next to install the shared printer on the computer.

  10. Click Finish to complete the task.

Print a test page & finish

After completing the steps, you should now be able to send print jobs through the network, to your computer, and to the USB printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your suggestion.  I followed those steps and the printer did not show up on laptop that I'm trying to share the printer with.  I also tried the TCP\IP option to install the printer on the  laptop

When I did that I got the same result, no printer found.  It did  attempt to look for drivers (I assume).   It had me select printer brand and then it offered me several HP models but nothing close to the HP1022 was on the list  This HP 1022 is about 15 years old. Perhaps that's a factor.

It has always worked fine from any PC it is directly connected to via USB.  It just seems to be "hidden" from other PC's on the network.  I'm open for other suggestions and I do appreciate your help.  Thank you.
