Mobile printing

I just set up a new HP Office Jet Pro 8130 e Series.  I have a much older Office Pro that we could print from any email address (Cell phone printing was painless!)  My new machine does not seem to offer this, or if it does, they've hidden the email address from me.  It appears the only way I can print from a mobile device is if I install the HP App.  I really do not want to install ANOTHER APP on my phone.  Is there any way around this?  I have the HP Smart App on my PC to manage the printer.

Sorry, there is no way around it --

You need the HP App installed on your phone.

AND

You must enable HP+ service / contract on your printer.

What happened?

The old ePrint mobile print technology has been replaced with Print Anywhere.

Print Anywhere is now considered by HP to be a premium service.

Print Anywhere is part of a set of print and scan features that are added to HP+ enabled printers and made available select non-HP+ printers.

Although Print Anywhere makes use of some the same "under the hood" coding tech, the new application is different from ePrint in significant ways.

Print Anywhere is accessed through HP Smart (Windows) or in the HP App (supported mobile devices).

What is HP+ Service / Contract?

When the HP+ service contract is enabled, the printer is added to your HP Smart / HP Connected account.

AND

• Menus related HP App / HP Smart might be changed to Orange.
• Premium scan features are added to the printer after setup.
• For new printers -- The original hardware Warranty is extended for an additional year.
• You agree to use only HP genuine cartridges (no refills or 3rd party remanufactured).
• Once enabled, HP+ cannot be rescinded / cancelled - Should you wish to dispute, Contact Support.

• You can have one and not the other.  For example, you can have only HP+
• You can have both HP+ and Instant Ink.
• You can choose to have neither.

Do NOT sign up for HP+ without first understanding how it works -

Requirements for HP+ printers

This topic describes the requirements for HP+ printers.

NOTE: HP+ is only available in some countries/regions

Keep the printer connected to the Internet

HP+ printers are cloud-connected devices that must remain connected to the Internet in order to function. The
Internet connection enables the printer to deliver HP+ specific app features and firmware updates.

During setup, you must connect the printer to the Internet using a supported network connection. After setup, you can print using a USB cable connection, if desired, but the printer must still be connected to the Internet.

Use Original HP cartridges

Original HP cartridges are cartridges manufactured and sold by HP in official HP packaging. If non-Original HP supplies or refilled cartridges are installed, HP+ printers will not operate as expected.

HP Smart / HP Connected Account

If HP+ is enabled during Printer Setup, the printer (and its secret address) are added to HP Smart / HP Connected.  

The printer's email address is assigned by the HP+ service and is not meant to be used directly or shared with anyone.  

The concept of "Invited users" is similar to the old ePrint "Allowed users list".  Unlike ePrint, Print Anywhere requires that invited accounts install and use the HP App to use the Print Anywhere service.

What is an Instant Ink Trial?

Trial periods include a certain number of Pages per month without the monthly fee normally charged for the subscription.

For example, 6-months "free ink" is a trial period of six months for which you are not charged the monthly subscription fee for your selected plan.

What is Instant Ink?

HP Instant Ink is a Print-by-Page subscription service for which you are charged a monthly fee for a set number of printed pages.  (Each side of the paper is counted as a separate Page.)

While there is no additional charge for the ink, the subscription is not free and does charge each month.

IMPORTANT -- Ink is supplied only with an active subscription -

After the service is terminated by you or HP, all subscription ink cartridges stop working and must (should) be returned to HP.

Selecting the right number of pages for your plan is important.

What is "Free Ink"?

There is no extra cost for ink.

Ink is provided as part of your subscription - use a drop or use a cup full, ink is included at no extra cost.

Important

• All ink activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / subscription service is active.

• After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.

and

• Subscription / Instant Ink cartridges remain the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.

Who Benefits?

Instant Ink is an excellent service for those who print regularly, print high-density documents or artwork, or perhaps print lots of homework.  For example, those who benefit the most include Teachers, musicians, writers who like hard copy, large families, small business offices, community centers, churches, and others who love -- or need -- to print on paper.
