My Android Play Store upgraded HP Smart to the new HP App ver. 20.0.1.5732. Do I need to keep the HP Print Service Plugin still or can I remove that from MY phone? Thanks

Hi @KennyMick,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Smart App!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The HP Smart app provides various functions for managing and using your HP printer, such as printing, scanning, and accessing printer settings. However, if you frequently print directly from other apps on your Android device, the HP Print Service Plugin is still recommended. This plugin acts as a print driver that allows seamless printing from your Android device to HP printers.

With the HP Smart app alone, you might not be able to print directly from other Android apps unless they have built-in compatibility or printing options.

When to Keep the HP Print Service Plugin:

  • If you print directly from non-HP apps (e.g., Chrome, Gmail, or image gallery) on your Android device.
  • If you notice any limited printing functionality without the plugin.

When You Might Consider Removing It:

  • If you only use the print, scan, or other functions exclusively within the HP Smart app.
  • If you are managing print tasks through the HP Smart app and do not need direct printing from other apps.

Ultimately, it depends on your specific usage. If your main printing activities are entirely within the HP Smart app or through email/mobile app instructions, you might not need the plugin anymore. However, for broader compatibility, keeping the plugin is recommended.

I hope this helps.
