I have an IOS device configured to an HP Envy 5030 Printer. Before a recent update of HP Photosmart, orientation of documents was automatically set in print preview to portrait or landscape before printing. Now all documents are set to portrait in print preview, and there is no option that allows me to change the orientation from portrait to landscape since the update. How do I change page orientation before printing?

I usually export a document to the application HP Photosmart before printing.

@Hanstherag, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you using a HP ENVY 5030 All-in-One Printer?

Which application are you using to print from?

Have you tried printing different types of documents and check if the issue persists?

For now, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on the iOS device

Use HP Smart app to print

Click here to download and know more about the app.

Note: You will be able to change the orientation of a picture/photo, not of documents. Open the image you want to print on the HP Smart app and then tap on the 3vertical lines with circular dots on it in the preview section.

Click on Crop > change the orientation from the icon at the right corner.

Let me know how this goes.

Thanks so much. The solution was even simpler: I simply unplugged the cable from the printer, replugged it (the printer was off) and then the print preview automatically selects portrait or landscape depending on the layout of the document when you’re about to print.

It would be nice to know though how I can retain the key settings, i.e. paper quality, print on both sides, etc. Each time I print a document I have to change the settings to my preferred options. Before the update, the changed settings were retained for future prints but now they default to print on one side only, normal quality, etc.

@Hanstherag

We do not have an option to save the settings as default on the iPad. Make sure to check the print settings before printing to obtain the required output.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
