Hello, I am having issues trying to print from my printer. I am trying to print off from my iphone, My printer is connected to my wifi but when I am trying to print a document from my phone it says it’s sending it to the printer, and then says it’s failed or couldn’t contact the printer. When I go onto the HP app it flicks between “cloud connected” and “not connected”

I have unplugged the printer and turned it on and off again from the mains, I have turned it off buy the on and off button, I have turned my phone on and off, I have turned my phone wifi on and off and I have restored the network settings on the printer but still nothing is printing.

I have printed a wireless network test result page from my printer and under the heading wireless it says
Wireless on — disabled
Wireless working — disabled

I have checked in the settings and it says wireless is on, so I don’t know why it is showing as it’s disabled

It’s been like this for 3 days now

Hi @chloe781,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

We understand how concerning this must be. You've already restarted the printer, rebooted your iPhone, reset the printer's network settings, and even verified the wireless network test report. The fact that the HP Smart app alternates between "Cloud Connected" and "Not Connected" and the Wireless Network Test Report shows "Wireless On Disabled" and "Wireless Working Disabled" suggests the printer is not maintaining an active Wi-Fi connection, even if the printer's settings indicate that wireless is enabled.

This behavior can occur if the printer's wireless module becomes stuck after a network interruption or remains in Setup Mode or Wi-Fi Direct mode instead of maintaining a stable connection to your home Wi-Fi network. As a result, the printer may appear online briefly but cannot reliably communicate with your iPhone or HP Smart.

1. Reset the Printer's Network Settings Again

A full network reset clears saved wireless settings and places the printer back into Setup Mode so it can establish a fresh connection.

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel (X) button together for 5–10 seconds, or until the wireless light begins flashing.
  3. Wait for the printer to enter Setup Mode.

This forces the printer to broadcast a temporary setup signal so HP Smart can configure the wireless connection again.

2. Restart Your Wi-Fi Router

Refreshing the router ensures it is ready to assign a new IP address to the printer.

  1. Unplug the router from power.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in.
  4. Wait until all internet and Wi-Fi indicator lights return to normal.

3. Reconnect the Printer Using HP Smart

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap + Add Printer.
  3. Select your printer when it appears in Setup Mode.
  4. Choose your home Wi-Fi network.
  5. Enter your Wi-Fi password and complete the setup.

This creates a new wireless connection between the printer and your network.

4. Verify the Wi-Fi Network

During setup, make sure your iPhone is connected to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Many HP printers communicate only on the 2.4 GHz band or establish a more reliable connection on that frequency. If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one network name, temporarily connecting your iPhone to the 2.4 GHz network during setup can improve the pairing process.

5. Test Printing with Apple AirPrint

Once HP Smart reports the printer as connected:

  1. Open a document or photo on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Share > Print.
  3. Select your HP printer.
  4. Send a test print.

If the print job completes successfully, the wireless connection has been restored.

After reconnecting the printer through HP Smart, the Wireless Network Test Report should indicate that Wireless On and Wireless Working are enabled, HP Smart should remain consistently connected, and printing from your iPhone using AirPrint should work normally.

If the Wireless Network Test Report still shows "Wireless Disabled" after completing these steps, please let us know:

  • What is the exact model number of your HP printer?
  • Does the printer have a touchscreen display, or does it use buttons only?
  • Does the wireless light remain solid, blink continuously, or stay off after the network reset?

This information will help determine whether the issue is related to the printer's wireless configuration or if a model-specific troubleshooting procedure is required.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
