Hi @S_L_B_1

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 5540 printer isn’t connecting to your iPhone or iPad, it might be related to the printer's Wi-Fi connection, the printer's setup process, or issues with Apple AirPrint or HP Smart. Let's go through some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully get your devices connected.

Step 1: Check Wi-Fi Connection

  • Ensure that your HP Envy 5540 printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone or iPad.
  • On the printer:
    1. Go to the Control Panel (the screen on the printer).
    2. Tap Wireless or Network settings.
    3. Ensure the printer is connected to the correct network.
    4. If necessary, reconnect it to your Wi-Fi by selecting your network and entering the password.

Step 2: Reset Wi-Fi Settings on the Printer

  • If your printer isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi or keeps dropping the connection, you might want to reset the network settings:
    1. On the printer’s Control Panel, go to Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
    2. This will disconnect the printer from the current Wi-Fi network, and you can set it up again.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect to your Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Enable AirPrint

  • The HP Envy 5540 supports Apple AirPrint, which allows you to print wirelessly from an iPhone or iPad.
    1. Check that AirPrint is enabled on your printer. This should be enabled by default, but if you’ve changed settings, you might need to check.
    2. On your printer’s Control Panel, go to Wireless settings, and look for AirPrint. If it’s turned off, enable it.

Step 4: Check for Software Updates

  • Make sure that your iPhone/iPad is running the latest version of iOS.
    1. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
    2. If there’s an update available, install it.
  • Also, ensure that the HP Smart app is up-to-date if you’re using it to print:
    1. Open the App Store on your device and search for HP Smart.
    2. If there’s an update, tap Update.

Step 5: Use HP Smart App (Optional)

  • If you’re still having issues, you can try using the HP Smart app, which is available for free on the App Store.
    1. Download the HP Smart app on your iPhone or iPad.
    2. Open the app and follow the instructions to set up your printer.
    3. Once the printer is set up, you should be able to print directly from your iPhone or iPad.

Step 6: Test AirPrint

  • Once the printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network and AirPrint is enabled, try printing from your iPhone or iPad.
    1. Open the app (like Photos, Safari, or Mail) on your iPhone or iPad.
    2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
    3. Tap Print, and select your HP Envy 5540 from the list of available printers.
    4. Tap Print again to send the job to the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
