HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One

I cannot print from my phone without the printer sending back an error message every time. Sometimes, it will print if it’s one or two pages but anything over 4 will error out and not complete. Also I get “error 4” for paper Jam when there is no paper jam about every third or fourth print job.

Hi @Sammy430097

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're experiencing some frustrating issues with your HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One.

Let’s break this down and address the two main problems: printing from your phone and the “E4” paper jam.

Issue 1: Cannot Print from Phone (Error with Larger Print Jobs)

This could be related to the connection between your phone and the printer or the app used for printing:

Check Network Stability:

Ensure that your printer and phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network with a strong signal. If possible, move both closer to the router.

Update the HP Smart App:

Make sure you’re using the latest version of the HP Smart app on your phone. Updates often fix bugs and improve performance.

Print as PDF First:

If you're printing a document with multiple pages, save it as a PDF on your phone first and try printing the PDF through the HP Smart app. This can sometimes resolve issues with larger print jobs.

Adjust Print Job Size:

Break down large jobs into smaller batches (e.g., print 2-3 pages at a time) to see if this bypasses the error for now.

Reinstall the App:

Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app to clear any corrupted settings or configurations.

Restart Printer and Phone:

Power off both devices and turn them back on. Re-establish the connection via the app.

Issue 2: “E4” for Paper Jam Without a Jam

False paper jam errors can be caused by sensor issues, misaligned paper, or dust. Here’s how to address it:

Check the Paper Path:

Open the printer's paper path and check for any small scraps of paper or debris that might be triggering the sensor. Even a tiny bit of dust can cause the error.

Clean the Rollers:

Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the rollers inside the printer. Ensure they are completely dry before using the printer again.

Realign Paper:

Make sure the paper is properly loaded in the tray. The paper guides should be snug but not too tight against the paper.

Update Printer Firmware:

Go to the HP Support website to check for any firmware updates for your printer. Firmware updates often include fixes for issues like these.

Perform a Hard Reset:

Turn off the printer and unplug it for at least 60 seconds. Plug it back in, turn it on, and test again. This can reset the sensors and clear phantom errors.

Switch Paper Types:

If possible, try a different brand or type of paper to rule out paper texture or thickness as the cause.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
