Laser Jet Pro M203dw
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Overnight, the HP Laser Jet is "confused" about the network and needs me to have Spectrum add a 2.4 GHz network? We bought this thing 7 months ago and it's worked fine, printing like a champ. Now all of a sudden, printer not found. Tried the HP Smart app. Got some stupid message about how the printer needs a 2.4 GHz—not a 5 GHz—network to join. Did the Virtual Assistant thing (horrible interface) and was told that message was correct and I needed to call Spectrum. Called Spectrum and found that my router offers both on the same network. As proof, the agent read to me the list of 2.4 GHz devices already on that network just fine. Tried HP Chat (sucks eggs) and after waiting 30 mins. (although I was "next") I tried calling. First call disconnected as soon as the hold finished to connect to an agent. I had to call back. "Terrance" didn't have access to any of the info (model number, phone number, etc.) I had entered on the HP site needed to create the case. And guess what? I need to call Spectrum to have them fix this "known issue" and create a separate 2.4 GHz network! THE LAST TIME I buy HP.

@jmmen, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Yes, both the bands should be split for the printer to work.

  • Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the MAC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
  • The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
