Why?

Why does it have to be so hard???

I have a regular DESKTOP PC hooked up thru a WIRED router to my ISP. I bought an HP printer and hooked it up to this PC via USB. Simple? Now WHY is it making me jumping through the hoops setting up this bloody Instant Ink program? Disconnect USB. Hook it up via wireless. Enter this code. Enter that code. hold these 2 buttons simultaneously. Etc, etc.

I guess this Instant ink is not for me after all. I'll be buying cartriges and paper on eBay, that's all. Was nice trying.

@MB_B,

Thank you for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I see that you are having issues with the Instant Ink claim code. Don't worry I'm going to help you with this issue.

I see from your post that you would like to sign up for the Instant ink program but there seems to be an issue enabling web services.

I have found a wonderful document which should help you with this issue - HP Printers - Cannot Connect to Web Services

In this document, please ensure you follow the steps 2, 3, 5 & 6.

Also try to remove web services and then re-enable web services, most of the time it works.

Here are few important Links - HP Printers - Enrolling in HP Instant Ink

Here's another document - please follow step 2 and 3. HP Printers - Setting Up an HP Connected Account

Step 2: Turn on Web Services - Printers without a touchscreen or LCD display

Step 3: Obtain the printer claim code

Thank you, Jeet. Obviously, it was my frustration speaking... or rather, the difference between what I had expected vs. what it turned out to be.

I will try again eventually, using the link you provided. Will report the results.

Thanks again!

OK, finally, I can report success. Still, I wouldn't call the process very intuitive... (I guess here was the main stumbling block, in my understanding: To put the printer on my home wi-fi, I need some way to enter the password for it (while the printer does not seem to have any provision for that). Conversely, I can use any device with wi-fi capability to hook up with the printer directly. But they all can maintain only one connection at a time, meaning when it sees the printer it's not on the Internet and vise versa (no, my mobile device does not have a SIM card and can be used on wi-fi only.) So the solution, it turned out, was to download and use the appropriate HP app...

Anyway, I'm glat this all is already in the past. Thanks!
