I purchased this printer from Bay and have been sent error codeError Code: UA_400_EB000U0422 as I cannot cloud print on my printer or set HP Instant ink.

Hello,

The error UA_400_EB000U0422 is an HP Web Services / account association error. It usually means the printer cannot successfully register with HP Cloud services, which is required for Cloud Print, HP Smart features, and HP Instant Ink.

Since you purchased the printer from eBay, this is very commonly caused by one of the following:


What this error actually means

Your printer is:

  • Still linked to a previous owner’s HP account, or

  • Region-locked to a different country, or

  • Unable to communicate properly with HP Web Services due to firmware / network issues


Step-by-step fixes (do these in order)

1️⃣ Restore the printer to factory defaults (MOST IMPORTANT)

This clears any previous owner’s cloud association.

From the printer control panel:

  1. Go to Setup / Settings

  2. Select Printer Maintenance or Tools

  3. Choose Restore Factory Defaults

  4. Confirm and let the printer restart

⚠️ This step is critical for eBay / second-hand printers.


2️⃣ Remove any existing Web Services

After reset:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select Web Services

  3. Choose Remove Web Services (if shown)

  4. Restart the printer again


3️⃣ Update printer firmware

Outdated firmware can trigger this error.

  • Install HP Smart

  • Add the printer via USB cable first (temporary)

  • Go to Printer Settings → Advanced → Firmware Update

  • Update fully, then restart


4️⃣ Enable Web Services again

Once firmware is updated:

  1. Go to Settings → Web Services

  2. Turn Web Services ON

  3. Note the printer claim code (if displayed)


5️⃣ Add printer to a NEW HP account

If the printer was previously registered, it must be added to a new account.

  1. Open HP Smart

  2. Sign in with your HP account

  3. Add printer → Set up Web Services

  4. Enter the claim code (if prompted)


⚠️ If the error STILL appears

Then the printer is region-locked or blocked on HP’s backend, which is very common with eBay units.

This means:

  • HP Instant Ink will NOT work

  • Cloud Print will NOT work

  • ✔️ Printer will still print normally via USB / Wi-Fi


How to confirm region lock

Check:

  • Printer model number

  • Country where you are located

  • Cartridge number supported (e.g., 61 vs 60)

If they don’t match your country → Instant Ink cannot be activated


Final options if region-locked

  1. Return the printer to the seller (best option)

  2. Use standard cartridges only (no Instant Ink)

  3. Ask HP Support if a region reset is possible (rare, but sometimes approved)
