Hi @Stluke8

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when your phone shows “waiting for the printer” or “printer is busy” even though you’re ready to print.

Thank you for already trying to connect and noticing the exact messages—it helps us focus on the right areas. Let’s go step by step to clear the queue and get your printer responding smoothly again.

Step 1: Restart the Connection

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Power the printer back on and wait until the wireless icon on the printer’s display is steady.

Step 2: Confirm Wi‑Fi Connection

  • Make sure your phone and printer are connected to the same Wi‑Fi network.
  • If your router has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, connect both devices to the same band (preferably 2.4 GHz for stability).

Step 3: Clear the Print Queue

  • Open the HP App on your phone.
  • Go to Print Queue and cancel any pending jobs.
  • Try sending a fresh print job after clearing.

Step 4: Re-add the Printer in HP App

  • In the HP App, remove the printer from the list.
  • Tap Add Printer and let the app search for available devices.
  • Select your printer and reconnect.

Step 5: Test with a Simple Document

  • Try printing a one‑page PDF or text file instead of a large photo.
  • This helps confirm whether the issue is with the connection or the file size.

Step 6: Update Firmware

  • On your Windows PC, open the HP App.
  • Select your printer, go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Firmware Update.
  • Install any available updates to ensure the printer communicates properly with mobile devices.

Once the printer and phone are on the same network, the queue is cleared, and the printer is re‑added in the HP App, the “waiting” or “busy” messages should disappear.
