I recently upgraded to a new router, and I am now unable to connect to my printer to the new wireless network.

select the Wireless Setup Wizard, it scans and picks up my wireless network, then asks me to enter my WPA/WEP key. I have entered it multiple times, but each time I get the error message "Invalid WEP key".

I have checked multiple times that the password is keyed correctly, but it will not accept the code.  Before the router upgrade, I previously used the same SSID and code.  To make sure there wasn't a conflict, I have reset the printer to factory network settings with no success.

I have also rebooted both the printer and the router with no success.

I have 5 other devices on the network that all connect without issue, and have checked all of the router settings to ensure that the printer is not somehow being blocked.  My router supports WPA along with WPA2, so it should be connecting.

Any other suggestions that I can try before I declare this printer obsolete?

Thanks,

George

Printer model was introduced in late summer 2004.

Just comments, nothing to get excited about.  I do not sell printers...

It just might be time to consider a new printer.  Admittedly, replacing this nice old printer with something that is "as good" will cost you some money.  Might be money well-spent; nonetheless a "budget" printer would not even come close to what you have now.

The following is perhaps a repeat of what you have tried, in which case, just ignore the advice and pretend it did not happen.

There has not been printer software for this printer for a while.

Installation using Windows Drivers:

HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

Make sure the router is broadcasting wireless 802.11b/g (HP Photosmart 2700 series all-in-one only)

Printer User Guide also says the printer supports Ethernet (Page 21) - if that is an option, try that.

Mentioned in the User Guide:

Wireless and Wired Network Guide

NOTE - Page 39

At the least, if you can (at least) temporarily connect the printer using an Ethernet cable, you can then use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to configure the printer - so much better than typing on a itsy-bitsy printer control panel.

Look for WPA / WPA2 / AES

Dragon-Fur, that was a a very helpful reply, thank you.  The router is broadcasting correctly.  Attempting to configure via EWS is a good suggestion and one I could undertake, albiet rather inconveniently.  I think that in this case, as I am not in need of high quality printing and pained by the high cost of ink cartridges, I will consider more seriously your comments about the age of this device.  Thanks again for your time and feedback.

You are welcome, George.

Read the specifications ("specs") for any new printer that you consider.

Printers can do so much these days, it is easy to forget that the little things can be important.

For example, if you need to print on 3x5 inch Index cards, be sure the printer you choose actually supports that card size.  Many budget printers may not do so.

Happy 2019!
