When installing with the hp smart app after the app shows my printer and I select it all it does is showing processing and does’t connect my printer and the only way I can stop it is to shut down my iPad and reboot to clear the process. I have had this printer for some time and haven’t had any problems with it. I just upgraded to iPad Air third generation and can’t connect with the app to print. I am using my iPhone 6S and it’s working fine with this printer and app. I work with Apple support to see if it may have been a setting on the iPad and all is well.  Please help if you can

Hi @texasyabo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue in adding your HP Printer to HP Smart. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • Could you please help me with the iPhone model number and the iOS version on your device?
  • Do you get any specific error messages when you try adding it using HP Smart?

While you respond to that, please try the below steps to resolve the issue.

Remove HP Smart App from your iPad:

  1. Touch and hold the app.
  2. Tap Remove App Remove App icon.

An iPhone screen showing the menu that appears when you touch and hold an app. Remove App is the third option in the menu.

An iPhone screen showing an app with the Remove icon in the upper-left corner of the app. There's also an Add button in the top left corner of the screen and a Done button in the top right corner of the screen.

  1. Tap Delete App, then tap Delete to confirm.

If the issue persists, then update the printer firmware and try adding the print on your iOS device again.

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

You may also try using the Apple AirPrint feature to print.

Print with AirPrint

  1. Open the app that you want to print from.
  2. To find the print option, tap the app’s share icon reply icon orshare icon or tap  share icon.
  3. Scroll down and tap pinter iconor Print. If you can’t find the print option, check the app’s User Guide or Help section. Not all apps support AirPrint.
  4. Tap Select Printer and choose an AirPrint-enabled printer
  5. Choose the number of copies or other options, like which pages you want to print.
  6. Tap Print in the upper-right corner.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your reply. I have done as you ask to delete the app and rebooted my iPad and downloaded the app again, went through the app per instructions and the app recognizes the printer I selected my printer and the window can up asking ok to connect after I tapped ok all the app does is showing processing and doesn’t connect to the printer, I also noted that after I select the printer it is highlighted and went the small window pops up to ok for connect the printer is no logger highlighted could that be the problem trying to connect to nothing? The model number of my iPad is MV1H2LL/A  ISO 16.2
I have had this printer Deskjet F4580 for sometime and its work well with my old iPad Air 1st generation and is working with my iPhone 6S no problems. I just upgraded to the Air 3rd generation, I have also worked with Apple support and they weren’t able to help with this and they just all the settings on the iPad. I hope this information helps.

I have the exact same problem.  I'm running the latest version of iOS, the latest firmware, I deleted and re-downloaded the app but no luck.  I select my Color LaserJet printer and the "Processing" dialogue box comes up and just spins for hours.  Can you please let me know what the solution is since I can't click through on the link you provided?
