HP Laserjet M15W
Android 4.4 - 4.4.4 KitKat

Hello,

I have a Laserjet Pro M15W printer. When I print from my android device using a printing application,  if I've just switched on the printer, the hp printer plugin connects to the printer (I see the wifi direct connection notification), but the Print button become enabled after about 4 minutes!!!. Afterwards, when I try to print again the print button become enabled in a few seconds after the connection. I've tried with a phone running Android 4.4, Android 6 and Android 7 and I face the same problem.

Can someone help me?

Thank you

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Do you have the same issue if you try printing from a computer or Mac?

I believe you are connecting through WiFi direct, is that correct?

Let's perform a Printer Reset.

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
 NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Also update the Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-m14-m17-printer-series/16647043/mod... if you have a computer available

I also suggest you try using HP Smart App

Hello,

I tried the shut down sequence you suggested but nothing change. I didn't try from Windows because is not of my interest. I develop Android applications for blind people, so I'm only interested in using the printer on phones running Android from 4.4 using Wifi Direct. In my application I use the Android print framework and after making some test, I found that when I start the print process using this line of code:

printJob = printManager.print(jobName, printAdapter,null);

If I've just switched on the printer I see the print plugin window appearing and the wifi direct
connection is done, but the Print button become enabled after about 1 minute and 45 seconds.
If I repeat the same test, but this time I setup an initial configuration, for example:
PrintAttributes.Builder builder = new PrintAttributes.Builder();
builder.setColorMode(PrintAttributes.COLOR_MODE_MONOCHROME);
builder.setMediaSize(PrintAttributes.MediaSize.ISO_A4);
PrintAttributes documentAttributes = builder.build();
printJob = printManager.print(jobName, printAdapter,documentAttributes);
this time the Print button become enabled after about 4 minutes.
In both cases, the second print starts after about 10 seconds and so on.
So what is the right initial configuration to make the printer become ready as soon as possible
even at the first print after switch on?

Thank you

Do you experience the same issue when using the HP Smart App?

Since my Android app must run on Android 4.4, I didn't try with HP Smart because it doesn't run on KitKat

Thank you

Yes,

I'm using the HP Print Service Plugin. The "Print button" I told about is the one which appears in the Plugin Service Settings Window

Thank you
