Agreed, and actually a better choice you can try is setting the router to use "WPA2-PSK" to eliminate the use of WPA-PSK for authentication. That router's "Recommended" is also less secure since it supports a mixture of the older less secure WPA PSK with TKIP and the still currently secure WPA2 PSK with AES CCMP. It is likely "recommended" because they don't want to take calls for legacy devices not working.
It may be that our documentation isn't quite specific and clear abut whether the printer supports WPA2-PSK, which it may indeed support, given its age and the age of WPA2-PSK (802.11i). Unfortunately it is old enough that I cannot find one of them to readily investigate to confirm that.

It has come to my attention that the symptoms you are observing may be due to the router / AP using a somehwhat obscure feature called PMF (Protected Management Frames). Our older printers had a problem with PMF, that was resolved in newer printers.
If you want to keep your Photosmart D110, you can ask your ISP to instruct you how to disable PMF in your Technicolor router device. Or you can purchase a newer printer that is compatible with PMF.
