Hi Gugljo,

You can restore it to a previous point in time when it was working. Use the following steps to restore your computer’s configuration.

Hope this works.

Thanks

Hi Mrstenter

It helped. Volume down sometimes for a moment but returned properly. Thus can now listen to music.

Thank you very much!!

Hello,

To be able to find out if the above steps work for your computer, and to find more product specific steps. I would need to know the full model number of your computer. I have included the document 'Guide to finding your product number'.

Thank you.

Thanks David, after updating from windows 8 to 8.1 on a HP ENVY dv7 been having a few problems with changes to the operating system.

Woke up this morning and sound had disappeared! Downloaded link and reinstalled straight and it was sorted  :generic:

I had the same issue after upgrading to Win 8.1 on my HP Envy Dv6. I began to follow these instructions, however, when at Sound, Video and Game Controllers the IDT HD Audio entry was highlighted with a yellow error indicator and rather than Uninstalling it I chose to Update Driver. The new driver loaded and after restarting the computer the sound was restored. It did take a few volume adjustments.

Also, I found an issue with my 2nd monitor not being recognized after the upgrade and had to go to Msoft tech support. Again, that solution required downloading an updated monitor display driver which then resolved the problem.

Thanks for your help.

I am having the same Windows 8.1 Update problem with my audio.

I am using an HP G60, Model 458DX laptop

I looked at the Sound driver information and it shows a Conexamt High Definition Smart Audio 221 device.

Driver: CHDRT64.sys

Ver. 4.58.1.0

and,..

an Intel (R) High Definition Audio HDMI device.

Driver: IntelHdmi.sys

Ver. 6.10.1.2073

Can you please advise me as to what I should do?  I have tried several options, including the Intel Driver Update Utility.

Thanks so much.

Tom

DavidPK, you are truly brilliant. I won't go into the details of how frustrating this problem was for me, but it was. Frustrating.

Your solution worked at my first attempt. I can't thank you enough.
