I have tried everything here and it has not worked for me. I downloaded Windows 8.1 because my computer kept bugging me to do so. Every since then, I have had issues with my computer's sound. I "rolled back" my HP laptop to Windows 8 but the sound problems remain.

I have a HP 2000-2d19WM Notebook PC. I think the problem is with Realtek. I was advised online to uninstall realtek and reinstall it. I uninstalled it. Now, I cannot re-install it. I downloaded it from the Realtek website and I keep getting an error message when the Wizard starts. It says Error Code:-5009 : 0x8002802b when I am doing the downloader. So, I downloaded new drivers for Realtek via he HP website and "rolled back" my HP laptop to Windows 8. The problem is better but not totally gone.

The sound is really weird and sounds as if I am underwater when I use my headphones. Even when I listen to it without headphones the sound is very low no matter what I do. I am no computer genius but I am not a novice either so I have been working trying to find a solution for about 2 days now.

Hi there,

A few days ago I updated from the Windows 8.1 evaluation to the full 8.1 release and since then my audio has not been working. In the control panel, "Digital Display Audio (AMD High Definition Audio Device)" is listed as unplugged. The audio icon on the taskbar is Xed out and clicking it runs the error finder in vain. Speakers no longer show up in the device listing although now that nothing is working I'm not sure if they ever did or if audio just came through Digital Display Audio. Headphones do not show up as playback devices and the volume controls on the keyboard and taskbar are inaccessible. I have never used external speakers.

The Windows 8.1 update seemed to wipe all of my HP and AMD software that came with the laptop so I reinstalled the HP Support Center and searched for driver updates and all that jive but everything shows as up to date. I don't know what else to look for as most of the forums I've seen seem to be talking about their HDMI out sound not working when plugged into a TV and I'm just trying to have sound, period.

Windows 8.1 64-bit
AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 7660G

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. It's been a few days and it's fairly annoying when everything was just dandy before updating.

I cannot get it to the setup screen. I have tried 10+ times, but instad my computer just keeps loading. I sit there and press the esc key over and over again while its loading but nothing different happens. I have a MSI if that makes a difference.

Dear David Pk

I had the similar problem with the audio and it was resolved after using your link and doing the described procedure. However the microphone and camera is not working anymore as well. Any ideas how to solve this. I found it out when i wanted to use skype. your help would be highly appreciated

I right-clicked upon computer in windows explorer, chose properties, therefrom to device management. High Definition Audio device properties, update driver, surf to swsetup\sp..... and let it go. I'm finn and hope you can understand my way of doing it.

I've tried everything suggested, but the audio on my laptop is still not working. I have a HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-b161ea Sleekbook - product number D5N70EA.

What else can I do to restore the audio?

Thanks
