Zbook Studio G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This has happened on numerous occasions now where my audio stops working. If I click the speaker with a red x in the bottom, it immediately pops up a "Detecting problems" dialogue. This doesn't resolve it. I'm on the latest audio drivers from the website. Removing the device from device manager and scanning again doesn't fix it, but a reboot does. When this happens, in device manager the Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) OED has an exclamation by it with the message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

FW did not sent FW Ready notification.

Forgot to mention: a reboot fixes the problem.

I had the issue with sound not working and the warning/error "FW did not sent FW Ready Notification" in the device manager too.

What fixed it for me was enabling Intel AMT/ME in the firmware which I usually disable when setting up new computers.
