I am experiencing an ongoing audio driver issue on my HP laptop, and despite trying several troubleshooting methods, the problem remains unresolved.

I have already attempted the following steps:

  • Ran the Windows audio troubleshooter.
  • Updated the audio driver through Device Manager.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the audio driver.
  • Downloaded and manually installed the recommended audio driver from the HP support website which kept failing.
  • Restarted the system multiple times.
  • Checked Windows Update for any pending driver or system updates.

Unfortunately, none of these methods have resolved the issue, i can't find Realtek audio anymore in the device manager, and my audio is still not functioning.

I would appreciate assistance in diagnosing

Hi @KHARLE01

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I acknowledge the concern regarding the Realtek audio driver not appearing in Device Manager and the audio remaining unavailable. Let us proceed with recommended steps to restore functionality.

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

This tool automatically detects and repairs driver and service issues.

Open HP App → Support → Troubleshooting → Diagnose & Fix

Select your device

Allow the scan to complete

Apply any recommended fixes

Verify Audio Devices in BIOS

Ensures the hardware audio controller is enabled.

Restart → Press Esc repeatedly → F10 BIOS Setup

Navigate to Advanced → Built-in Device Options

Confirm Audio is enabled

Save changes and restart

Reinstall Audio Driver via HP App

A clean reinstall ensures proper driver registration.

HP App → Updates

Uninstall audio device from Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers

Restart system

In HP App, check for pending audio driver updates and install

Run HP Audio Check

Validates hardware functionality and provides guided repair steps.

HP App → Diagnostics → Audio Check

Run the test

Follow on‑screen guidance if issues are detected

Reset HP App

Resets configuration to ensure proper detection of devices.

Windows Settings → Apps → HP App → Advanced Options → Reset

Perform reset

Relaunch HP App

Re‑run audio diagnostics

By following these steps, the Realtek audio device should reappear and audio functionality be restored. Please confirm if the device becomes visible after running Diagnose & Fix and BIOS verification.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
