My computer has had this ongoing problem with the audio files. It worked smoothly for the first year, then I was being told when I would talk into a mic, I sounded robotic. Unistalling and redownloading the file would work but it was never permanent. It would come back. Then it escalated to removing an entire file under sounds, and I've tried redownloading what I think is the same or similar file. Uninstalling does nothing. Now it's starting to effect my headset, I have to wiggle the cord a certain way for it to work with my microphone. I contacted the company about the headset, they can't help me seeing it's not the headset having problems. Works fine plugged into anything else. The laptop has been in numerous times already with Geek Squad, who I have a three year warranty with. So far they haven't been helpful with this. Is there anything I'm doing wrong here? I just don't understand what's going on

Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with the audio.

 

Appreciate you trying the steps. Don’t worry, I’m here to help! 

 

Let's try these steps -

 

Step 1 Run Audio troubleshooter -

 

1) In Windows, type "Find and fix audio" into Search, or right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems.
2) Select Find and fix audio playback problems or Find and fix audio recording problems from the Search results.

 

Step 2 Re-install the Audio drivers -

 

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.
3) Right click on the Audio drivers and click on uninstall.
4) Restart the computer. 
5) Download and install the audio driver from this link.

I tried that before, and it hasn't changed anything. Everytime I do it, I have to unistall it again but it somehow back tracks and makes me sound robotic again. I went further ito the trouble shooter, and the problem is linked to the Generic audio driver with the Microsoft HD audio driver. No real info on what went wrong, but sound wouldn't play when it tried to switch over. When I go to Device manager, I used to have two files in "sound, video and game controls". I still have the "Conexant isst audio" device, but my "Intel High Definition Audio" is in the "Other Devices". When you go into properties, it gives me code 28.  The Hard drive for this thing has been replaced twice already, due to errors they have no idea what happened. It would be very frustrating to do it again.

The code 28 error is caused by the missing driver for that particular device. 

 

How did you re-install the operating system - was it from a recovery partition or from a recovery media?

I don't remember, and I don't think they specified on the paperwork. Do I need to go ahead and make an appointment to take it then?
