Hi @DP071,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Check Microphone Settings in Windows 11

Ensure that your microphone is enabled and set as the default device:

  1. Right-click on the Sound Icon: Located in the system tray (bottom right corner of the screen).
  2. Select "Open Sound Settings".
  3. Input Section: Under the "Input" section, ensure your internal microphone is selected.
  4. Test Microphone: Speak into your microphone and watch for the blue bar to move. If it moves, your microphone is working.

2. Check Device Manager

Ensure the microphone driver is installed and functioning properly:

  1. Right-click Start Button: Select "Device Manager".
  2. Expand Audio Inputs and Outputs: Look for your internal microphone.
  3. Update Driver: Right-click on the microphone and select "Update driver". Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".
  4. Reinstall Driver: If updating doesn't work, you may need to uninstall the driver and then reboot your laptop to let Windows reinstall it.

3. Privacy Settings

Windows 11 has privacy settings that can block access to your microphone:

  1. Go to Settings: Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Privacy & Security: In the left-hand menu.
  3. Microphone: Click on "Microphone" in the "App permissions" section.
  4. Microphone Access: Ensure that the toggle switch for "Microphone access" is turned on.
  5. Allow Apps Access: Scroll down and enable the toggle switch for apps you want to use the microphone with.

4. Sound Settings in Control Panel

You may need to adjust settings in the Control Panel:

  1. Right-click the Sound Icon: Select "Sounds".
  2. Recording Tab: In the "Recording" tab, find your internal microphone.
  3. Set as Default Device: Right-click on the microphone and select "Set as Default Device".
  4. Properties: Click "Properties" and ensure the device is enabled.
    • Levels Tab: Check the microphone volume and ensure it's not muted.

5. Microphone Troubleshooter

Use the Windows troubleshooter to identify and fix issues:

  1. Go to Settings: Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. System: Select "System" and then "Troubleshoot".
  3. Other Troubleshooters: Scroll down and find "Recording Audio". Click "Run" to start the troubleshooter.

I hope this helps.
