HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cr0000 (538A1AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop's about 4 years old. About 6 months ago the audio stopped working. I tried all the troubleshooters and followed various suggestions, couldn't fix it. I took it to the Geek Squad, who tried and said best to buy a new computer, which I did (!!!)  Came home\, still made us of my now old computer--it could not play back sound, but it could record sound.

Then suddenly it all came back. Sound working ok. I hadn't done anything particular to make it happen. So for about another 3 or 4 months I have been happy with two laptops, until two days ago, when it suddenly again lost all audio playback. I did all I had done before (updating drivers, running fixes and diagnostics from HP and Microsoft, etc). Nothing fixed it. I am at my wit's end. Please help.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting audio issues with your notebook, I am glad to assist you.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

Cheers.
