HP ENVY m7 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been using the built in speakers on my HP ENVY my notebook for some time without issue.

In that, I can use the Bang & Olufsen app equalizer to change how things sound.

No issues at all.

I like it.

Recently, I purchased a new JBL Bluetooth speaker. (Flip 4.)

I paired it with my notebook.

But the B&O equalizer dosen't seem to have any effect on the output sound.

I can play radio stations from my notebook and hear things through the Bluetooth speaker.

But, it sounds, well, not so nice.

So, I wanted to augment the sound via the B&O app.

But, the B&O app dosen't make any difference (to the output sound) regardless of the equalizer selections.

The same speaker sounds fabulas when connected via bluthooth to my phone.

By the way.

Just for grins and giggles ....

I paired an inexpensive Bluetooth speaker ($12.00 at Walmart. I've had it for some time.) with the notebook.

Just like the JBL speaker, the inexpensive speaker worked when playing radio stations and music from my hard drive.

But, the B&O apps behavior, was identical in that the equalizer wouldn't work regardless of what selections I chose.

Any idea what I might do in order to get the B&O app to work with a Bluetooth speaker ?

Thanks

Hi @RayInWisconsin,

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers

I understand that you are unable to make any changes on the sound settings.

No worries, I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you try to do any changes in the setting?

Are you facing the issue after an update?

Uninstall the audio drivers.

Click here to reinstall the drivers from the recovery manager.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

If the information I've provided was helpful.

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply.

To be clear. (I'm not always the best at explaing things.)

The B&O app (that was installon my my HP pc when I purchased it) does allow me to make changes.

But thoes changes are not reflected with regards to the Bluetooth attached speaker(s).

The changes made via the B&O app are only recogmizable if I am using the ENVY's built in speaker or if I have an external speaker plugged into the headphone jack.

Any speakers connected to the ENVY (via Bluetooth. I tried two different external speakers.) are not affected by any settings when I use the B&O app.

Yet if I disconnect the Bluetooth speaker from the ENVY (connected via Bluetooth) and then connect it to the ENVY via the headphone jack, then the B&O app DOES affect

I hope that makes sense.

I am running the latest and greatest version of Windows 10.

I just purchased a new JBL Flip 4 Bluetooth speaker and am using it for the first time.

So, I can't say for sure that the issue started occuring as a reslut of any Microsoft or HP updates.

I didn't really make any changes in an effort to make this work.

Additionally ...

On the first screen of the B&O app I see two (2) "speaker" icons.

One is for the Bluetooth connected speak and the other is for my built in speakers.

If I choose the Bluetooth speak, the equalizer (click on listening experience) has no effect on the sound comeing from the bluetooth speaker.

If I click on the second speak icon, which is for my built in or headphone connection, then the B&O "listening experience" equalizer does effect the output sound.

I checked for updates for both the JBL Flip 4 Stereo and Realtek High Definition Audo which relted in a message indication the latest and greatest drivers were already installed.

And that's about it.

This same issue occurs if I substu=itute a different bluetooth speaker my my Flip 4.

So, I'm thinking the issue isn't with the spearker or their drivers. (But hey, what do I know ?)

I ran all of the normal touble shooting steps.

No hardware issues, no errors in the system or application logs and no viruses or malware.

(I run both Malwarebytes premium and Windows Defender.)

So, I'm stumped.

In that case, I would recommend you to perform a Microsoft push button reset which would take it back to the factory settings. Follow this link. 🙂

Ray's reply:

I uninstalled the audio drivers as you suggested.

Then, I reinstalled them via the recovery Manager app as you suggested.

When the process was completed, the Bang & Olufsen app was gone from my pc.

So, I can't test the equalizer, via the "Listening Experience" selection on the Bang & Olufsen app .

Now what ?

HP Recommended

I repeated the process a second time.

   Manually uninstalled the audio drivers.

Used the HP recovery app to reinstall the drivers.

This time, I have the Bang & Olufsen app once again.

Unfortunatly, the issue remains.

The Bang & Olufsen app does allow me to modify the sound output via the "Listening Experience" equalizer. when using the pcs internal speakers or a headset.

But although the Bang & Olufsen app allows me to select the Bluetooth speaker, the "Listening Experience" equalizer settings have no affect at all on the sound coming from the Bluetooth speaker.

Maybe the Bang & Olufsen app simply dosen't work with Bluetooth attached speakers ?

I wonder if HP may have a newer version of the Realtek High Definition Audio driver (along with a newer version of the Bang & Olufsen app) around somewhere ?

The version that I now have installed is "6.0.1.7560".

Thanks for your efforts on my behalf.

They are greatly appreciated.
