HP ENVY 16 inch Laptop PC 16-h1000 (754G1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Have this issue on NEW laptop since 1-2025.

Sound works for a day odr so, then drops out- reboot, comes back usually.

Have uninstalled, reinstalled ALL sound-related devices and drivers with Tech support from COSTCO, MS, HP.

Did an .ISO overwrite of windows11 from MS...no effect.

HP wants me to uninstall ALL programs and data and OS, format the drive and then reinstall ALL again with fingers crossed. Hours of work, following the 20 hours of work so far. If ineffective, then do this AGAIN and send to HP for "repair".

I have seen posts where w11 is reinstalled without results.

I am very frustrated with this BS.

Why is there no FIX for this KNOWN, UBIQUETOUS ISSUE?

Try these steps:

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Enter your laptop model and download the latest BIOS updates.
  • Install the BIOS update and reboot your laptop.

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Win + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
  • Right-click on your audio driver (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio), and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Disable Audio Enhancements:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Open Sound settings.
  • Choose Device properties under your output device.
  • Select Additional device properties.
  • In the Enhancements tab, ensure that all enhancements are disabled.
  • Apply changes and restart your laptop.

Set Default Audio Device:

  • Open Sound settings by right-clicking the speaker icon and selecting Open Sound settings.
  • Choose Sound Control Panel on the right-hand side.
  • Go to the Playback tab, right-click on your speakers or headphones, and select Set as Default Device.
  • Ensure there are no other devices set as default that might conflict.

Run Audio Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Additional troubleshooters and run the Playing Audio troubleshooter.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and fix any issues.

Check Sound Settings:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon and select Open Volume Mixer.
  • Ensure that all applications have their volume settings appropriately set.

I hope this helps.
