Okay, so it's not just me that thinks it's confusing to have TWO drivers for Conexant with the same name?

I will try what you suggest, but I'm not following the part where you say "you should also have a box to check to remove the driver also."

When I right click on the device name in Device Manager, I get a context menu with several choices, one of which is Uninstall. When I select that, there are no other checkboxes, just a confirmation that I really want to uninstall.

Are you saying I need to Uninstall two things: the driver, and the device from Device Manager?

That is a mess with drivers on your Support page. The one that seems in line with what you have is the one I would choose. if you have it downloaded try another approach.

In Device Manager, right click and choose Uninstall. You should also have a box to check to remove the driver also. Afterwards, restart and let Windows fully load. Try to install the downloaded driver again. Right click, run as administrator.

You would actually have to choose Properties when you right click and go to driver tab-sorry about that. Was also working on another with Windows 7. Either way- just right click and Uninstall.

Okay, tried the uninstall, reboot, and install as administrator, and I'm still showing this as the device status in Device Manager:

Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

I'm hoping you have something else to try. I REALLY need my sound to work. 😞

This one is tough!

  • Right click, choose Properties. In the device's Properties box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall. Follow the instructions.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Open Device Manager, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.

I have a happy ending to this story. Working with HP technical support, we discovered that I had an old build of Windows 10, even though I have automatic Windows updates turned on.

When I updated to Windows 10 build 1607, my driver installed successfully, and the sound is working again.

Wanted to share this as another trouble shooting question for you to ask when working with people who are having driver intallation issues.

Thanks for posting the solution- new one for me. Would never have suspected that in a Windows 10 world always pushing updates.
