My HP Envy sees the speaker in my Conextant Echo Cancelling Speakerphone, but it cannot find the microphone . It was fine a month ago, but not now. My research has told me to delete device from within the Device Manager (making sure that I check the box to delete the driver, too). But the box for deleting the driver doesn't appear. So when I delete the device, it disappears from the listing in the device manager but the speaker continues to work. The microphone continues to hide itself.

Hi @M1Noonan

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the situation—and I’m truly sorry your Conexant Echo Cancelling Speakerphone’s microphone is no longer recognized by your HP Envy.

I appreciate the steps you’ve already taken and your persistence. Since the speaker is detected but the microphone is missing, and the driver removal option isn’t appearing, let’s walk through a focused recovery path to restore full device functionality.

Step-by-step recovery for missing microphone in Conexant Echo Cancelling Speakerphone

1. Enable hidden and disconnected devices

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager
  • Click View > Show hidden devices
  • Expand Audio inputs and outputs and Sound, video and game controllers
  • Look for any grayed-out entries related to Conexant or USB Audio
  • If found, right-click and select Uninstall device
  • Disconnect the speakerphone, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect

2. Check microphone privacy settings

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone
  • Ensure Microphone access is turned On
  • Scroll down and confirm that Let apps access your microphone is also On
  • If your app (e.g., Zoom, Teams) is listed, ensure it has access

3. Reinstall the USB audio driver

  • Disconnect the speakerphone
  • Visit the HP Envy driver page
  • Enter your exact HP Envy model
  • Download and install the latest Audio driver listed (look for Conexant or Realtek)
  • Restart your PC
  • Reconnect the speakerphone and wait for Windows to detect it

4. Run the Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
  • Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter
  • Follow the prompts to detect and resolve microphone issues

5. Test microphone in Sound settings

  • Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar > Sound settings
  • Under Input, check if the Conexant microphone appears
  • If listed, speak into the mic and watch for activity in the Test your microphone bar
  • If not listed, click Add device or Manage sound devices to enable it

6. Try on another USB port or system

  • Connect the speakerphone to a different USB port
  • If possible, test on another Windows PC
  • If the microphone is detected elsewhere, the issue may be driver-related on your current system

Let me know how the microphone responds after these steps. If it reappears and functions correctly, we can fine-tune app permissions and input defaults.

You’ve done everything right by staying observant—I’ll be here to guide you further.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!

You are Welcome @M1Noonan

I’m glad to hear that Option #1 resolved the issue for you.

It’s always satisfying when a straightforward step brings the microphone back into recognition and saves time. If you notice any further quirks with audio devices—like intermittent detection or echo issues—you can always revisit the same settings or run a quick audio test in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to confirm stability.

Thanks again for your confirmation, and we wish you an amazing day ahead! 😊
