My laptop has a volume control button on the left hand side of it that keeps getting stuck in either turning the volume up or down and will not stop. Is there a way to disable the side control buttons from working at all so I can use the volume on my device? My computer is no longer under warranty by the manufacturer and I honestly don't use the control anyway so easiest thing is to disable it from working at all.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums,

I understand your concern and to help you out,

Since this is a hardware issue & there are no options to disable the (stuck) side buttons as such,

I have escalated your concern to HP's Support Team in your region to have it reviewed for available options (if any).

You should be contacted within 4 business days (Excluding Holidays & Weekends).

Response times may vary by region.

Please send a Private Message, if you aren't contacted within 4-5 business days.

Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (such as serial numbers and case details).

And Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

I also have the same problem with some of the elitebooks we have assigned to some users. It is a dumb design and/or poor, fragile execution of that design. It would be nice if there was a way to disable that hardware switch in BIOS or in the OS. Not only does the volume level indicator wind up stuck on the screen when this happens, but it surprisingly cause weird application bugs as well.
