I am connecting a HP Probook to a Samsung plasma TV with a HDMI cable. The video works fine but there is no sound. If i right click on sound and select playback I only get the following 2 options. Speakers and headphones. On both, "show disconnected devices" are checked.

Hi,
Please follow instructions from this site to fix. Also follow this:
With a right cable, please try these steps
(a) Turn OFF both TV and laptop
(b) Connect cable both ends
(c) Turn ON the TV,
(d) Turn ON the laptop.
Regards,

Thank you.
I had a look at the message below which was on your link. I disabled the IDT high definition audio CODEC (It does not show any HDMI output devices) and searched on the net for an updated driver. The reply I got was that I already have the most recent driver. So I could not update it.
I also did the other option by turning TV and laptop off and then connect with HDMI cable. Still no luck.

I have solved the issue with my computer. Let me explain my situation first before I give the solution. I have an ASUS U81A with a Core 2 DUO running on Windows 7 64 Bit OS. The issue I had was when I plugged my computer into my TV via HDMI, there was video but NO audio. So I went into my Control Panel and in the Sounds Settings I had 2 outputs, one was the Laptop Speakers and the other was the Headphone Jack (Realtek Digital Output). I was missing an output and that was the HDMI sound output (Digital Audio HDMI). When I went into System Properties and Device Manager, I saw that the device for the HDMI Audio Output was there and it said that it was working properly, but it really wasn't. All of my drivers including the Intel Chipset are up to date, so I know that it not the issue. Now onto the solution.... Be sure you are connected to the internet first. Then, go into your device manager. For anyone who doesn't know how to do that, go into My Computer, System Properties (at the top), Device Manager (top left). Now expand the "Sound, video and game controllers," and you should see something along the lines that says High Definition Audio Device HDMI, right click on it and select Disable (if you do not do this it will automatically reuse the existing drivers). Next, right click again and select "update driver software." Choose the search automatically option. It will install a different driver and might change the name of the driver. You might have to Enable the device once you update the driver, if so just right click and Enable. Now, if you open up the control panel and go into the Sounds settings, you now should have a new device to choose from. I figured this out with pure dumb luck and a few hours of fiddling around with it.

Hi,
Please
- Right click the speaker icon,
- Select Playback device
Can you see HDMI Output in there ? If Yes, Enable it. If no, totally uninstall audio driver and reboot the machine; after that ask Windows 7 to find right driver for your machine.
Regards.

Thanks again
I eventually got it to work. The problem is not with my laptop but with my TV. My TV plays the sound through my amplifier and external speakers. When I changed the option on my TV settings to play the sound through the TV speakers it works.
I still would like to figure out how to make it play through the amp but I will work on that.
thanks again for the advice.
