Hi,
I am having audio issues on my HP ENVY x360 Convertible. It's in new condition and not damaged at all. I don't have a warranty, but I'm not sure how to fix it and would appreciate the help.
Everytime I try to play audio, it seems as if there is a lag before the audio starts to play - this happens with wired headphones, but not the actual speakers when there are no headphones plugged in. If I am watching YouTube, the video will start playing, but the audio starts up after about 3 seconds. It's very annoying because I miss some parts and have to go back. Happens when listening to music too, etc.
It happens after the audio or video has been paused for sometime, maybe about 10 seconds. It's almost like the audio went into a sleep mode and needs to turn back on.
I have tried to update the BIOS on my laptop and restarted it, I have tried the audio troubleshooting, I have tried different pairs of headphones. Nothing seems to fix it.
Does anyone have any input? I would really appreciate it.
Thank you for your help!

Welcome to HP Community
Does it problem happen only when watching Youtube and Online videos?
Meantime I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...
HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also ensure Windows is up to date.
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
Keep me posted how it goes
Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hi, I just tried all of that and none of it worked 😞
And the audio issue is not just for online videos, but also if my laptop gets a notifcation like an email or just a system alert that sound is also delayed or doesn't play at all. Same thing with the iTunes on my laptop, the music will start playing, but no actual sound for a few seconds.
Any other solutions you may have?
Thank you!

Let's reinstall the audio driver from Device Manager
- Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
- Look for Audio Input & Output and expand the List
- Look for Audio driver then right-click it, and select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the Audio driver and select Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
If the issue persists, run an Audio Diagnostic to confirm the Hardware Functionality
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Audio
Let me know how it goes 😊

Use the troubleshooting tool in Windows
The audio troubleshooting tool in Windows can automatically fix common audio recording and audio playback problems with your computer. Run the troubleshooting tool using the following steps:
- In Windows, type find and fix audio into Search, or right-click the speaker icon
in the taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems.
- Select Find and fix audio playback problems or Find and fix audio recording problems from the Search results.
- Click Next.
- Select the device you want to troubleshoot and click Next.
- Wait while the troubleshooter detects problems and makes changes (or prompts you to make changes).
- When the troubleshooter is done, the Troubleshooting has completed page is displayed, listing any problems found and what changes were made to the computer.
- Click Close.
- If a recommended action is displayed, select Apply this fix.
If you completed these steps and the latest driver was already installed, use the following steps to uninstall and then reinstall the driver:
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the sound device and select Uninstall.
- Restart the computer to reinstall the driver.
- Test for sound. If the audio problem persists after reinstalling the driver, continue to the next step.

Hi so I tried the other 2, but didn't work 😞
I was trying to do the BIOS update, but BitLocker doesn't seem to be on my computer. I searched it and tried to go to Security and tried to look for it, but couldn't find anything about BitLocker to try to disable it so wasn't sure if I can continue on with it. Is it all right for me to update BIOS without disabling BitLocker?
Thanks!
