Hello,
In preparation to sell it, used Windows 10 reset option on the EliteBook 8570p.
Now it has no sound. Device manager does not list any sound or audio board. Little button on loptop is permanently lit as off. Windows 10 troubleshooter says it cannot fix the sound. HP software and drivers will not let me even look at drivers for this laptop. Hp support assistant did update the BIOS, but that did not help.
I dug a little deepter and it appears that it may be IDT PC audio.
Any help for this issue?

That's not good.
In order for the sound to work, there has to be a Sound, Video and Game Controllers device manager category with the IDT HD audio device listed there as well as an Intel HD audio (for the display port).
Or at least two generic HD audio devices.
You may want to try a clean install of W10 and start from scratch.
You can clean install W10 using the media creation tool from the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
The utility will allow you to make a bootable USB installation flash drive (you will need a 4 GB flash drive for this), or save an ISO file which you can burn to a DVD to install W10 that way.
During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Hi:
See if this W10 IDT audio driver works for your model. Install and restart the PC.
6.10.6492.0 Rev.A

If the above driver installs, it may set the headphones/headset as the default (leaving you to believe the audio still isn't working), so go to the windows control panel>hardware and sound>sound>manage audio devices and set the PC speakers as the default.
If not, your only option would be to see if the W8.1 driver from your notebook's support page works instead.

I was so excited to try those drivers - but both of them said "the hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package". Bummer.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. I am fairly techie, so you can get complicated if needed.

Yes, it is a bummer.
I was hoping the first one would work. It worked for my HP 350 G1 business notebook, where none of the other IDT audio drivers I tried worked.
This latest release of W10 has wrecked havoc on the IDT audio. With the previous releases of W10, the IDT audio got knocked out every time, but each time I was able to install the W8.1 driver from the 350 G1 support page and it worked every time.
The last time it didn't, but fortunately the 1st driver I posted did.
The only other suggestion I can offer to at least restore the sound would be to see if this works...
Go to the device manager and click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device category.
1. Select the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC under that category.
2. Select Driver tab.
3. Click the Update Driver button.
4. Select -> Browse my computer for driver software.
5. Select -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6. Select High Definition Audio Device (Not IDT High Def... this is important.) and click Next.
A warning message may appear, but click Yes.
7. Windows has successfully updated your driver software.
8. Restart the PC.
The key is step 6.

This is nothing in device manager for Sound. Nothing.
OBTW - how do I get to the support page for the 8570p? HP will not let me see it - the unit was refurbished -- purchased from the HP Business Outlet, and HP support tells me that it is an invalid serial number.
Any chance that you could send me the link to get to the support page for the 8570p?

Reinstalling Windows per your link worked! The display on the laptop was funky after that finished, using device manager and updating the driver for the display took care of that issue.
Now I realize that reinstalling Windows 10 rather than using the "reset Windows" option was a better way to go to prepare a laptop for resale.
I am so grateful for your help and appreciate your knowledge!!!
