I've read all of the other threads about audio crackling on the Envy laptops and understand there is/was a driver disagreement between MS/HP/AMD.

I remember having this issue a few years ago, following some steps in the forums, disabling Windows Updates for as long as I can tolerate and then it just wasn't an issue for a while.

About a month ago it randomly started again.

I followed the instructions in this thread(https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Crackling-sound-HP-ENVY-360/m-p/9181339#M125881)  and changed my AMD Audio CoProcessor driver to the driver via the link (Driver Version 2.89.0.81). The issue seems to be ongoing.

Are there other driver elements I need to check and update to resolve this?

Hi @JG2910,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with the speakers on your Laptop.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Please follow the steps below to perform an audio test to confirm if the hardware is working fine.

1) Shut down the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) click Component Tests > click Audio, and then click Run once.

If you have the same issue while running the test, there is an issue with the hardware.

If the hardware is working fine. Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Thanks for your reply.

The audio test isn't very helpful as the crackling is fairly random and intermittent. The crackling occurs with various audio sources (youtube, spotify) and isn't easily repeatable. I ran the test you described and it sounded fine, but I would probably have to sit here for hours before noticing something which isn't realistic.

I've noticed there was a Bios update available for my laptop in the process of running the test and updated that.

I will monitor over the next few weeks to see if maybe the bios update changed anything.

I wouldn't say the problem has been solved yet, it's intermittent and is not easy to reproduce.

Can we not archive this in case other users with similar experiences or questions can find this as a recent post?

@Irwin6

This is not resolved. I was just sitting at my laptop with no audio playing at all from any applications and can hear random crackling coming from the speakers.

By the time I go and try to reboot to run the bios audio test, it has stopped. This issue is random and not easily reproduced.

What else can I try to troubleshoot this?

I think I'm stuck with the issue then, I haven't had good luck with formal HP support in the past. I was posting this hoping some other users had found a resolution like the other audio driver related issues common to the Envy family.

Still crackling randomly. So frustrating.

It is clear other users have this problem even on brand new laptops:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/New-HP-Envy-2-in-1-audio-pops-and-crackles/m-p/8655699

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Audio-crackling-I-ve-tried-everything-I-can-think-of/m-...

There really seems to be design/driver issue here. These speakers are not blown, it is not related to any specific audio source (spotify, youtube etc). There is an audio issue with these laptops.
