HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ey0000 (54J83AV)

Headset mic shows as "not plugged in" when connected to 3mm jack port. However, headphones are detected and work fine. Please note, the headset mic has been tested on other devices and works perfectly; this PC is not detecting it.

The following may, or may not be connected:  the mic on this headset was detected and worked fine up until some HP driver updates were automatically installed on my computer (HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent 4.2.1217.0 & HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent 1.51.3297.0).

I went through troubleshooting steps with HP support, but the problem was still not resolved. These steps included:

- updating audio drivers

- updating BIOS

- checking mic privacy settings

- making sure device was enabled

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

3) Right click on the Audio drivers and click on uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

Also, try updating the computer -

Hi,

Thank you for your response. I have tried all of those troubleshooting steps, and the mic is still not detected.

I've noticed that it is detected intermittently, for maybe a few seconds/minutes before no longer works again. Perhaps it is a hardware issue?

Hi @T-A-B-,

Thank you for your response,

If the headset mic on your HP Envy x360 is no longer detected, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Make sure the headset is properly connected to the laptop. Check that the headphone jack is fully inserted into the laptop's audio port.
  • Try using a different headset or microphone to see if the issue is with the original headset or with the laptop itself.
  • Check your sound settings to ensure that the microphone is enabled and set as the default recording device. Here's how:
  • a. Right-click the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings". b. Click on the "Sound Control Panel" link on the right-hand side of the page. c. In the Sound Control Panel, click on the "Recording" tab. d. Check to see if the microphone is listed and enabled. If not, right-click in the empty space and select "Show Disabled Devices". If the microphone is still not listed, try updating your audio drivers. e. If the microphone is listed but not set as the default device, right-click on it and select "Set as Default Device".
  • Check for any updates for your audio drivers. You can do this by going to the HP website and searching for your laptop model. Look for the "Downloads" or "Drivers" section and download and install any available audio drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
