Microsoft Windows 11

My Realtek(R) audio driver keeps uninstalling itself, and my laptop replaces it with the generic High Definition Audio Device, which tends to cut out randomly. My laptop runs Windows 11 25H2. I want to have my Realtek(R) audio driver run on this computer.

May be windows replacing it. Try this:

  1. Press Win + R, type:
  2. sysdm.cpl → Enter.
  3. Go to the Hardware tab → Device Installation Settings.
  4. Choose: “No (your device might not work as expected)” → Save Changes.
  5. This tells Windows not to auto‑download drivers from Microsoft, so your HP Realtek driver should stay in place.

Now instalment your audio driver and check

How do I install the audio driver? Thanks

I think my computer isn't recognizing the Realtek driver as "digitally signed." It just won't install the driver.

Download and install audio driver from hp driver page of your laptop.

Didn't work. I still see high def audio device after restarting.

Try disabling the “High Definition Audio Device” entry under “Sound, video and game controllers”. Disabling the “High Definition Audio Device” in Device Manager stops that specific audio endpoint from working, which can either break sound entirely or, in some conflict cases, force Windows to fall back to a different driver (like your OEM Realtek/Conexant driver) and restore audio.

If the issue persists, check the Windows Update driver history and let me know whether it includes a “High Definition Audio Device” driver. So, audio works fine after you install the audio driver from the HP website, but after a restart it gets replaced and stops working correctly, right?
