Simply cannot open the Disc door, to install music CD's for Xmas, a annual event, have to use a straightened paper clio, inserted in the later side of the door. it will open then, but not pleased with that.  The lg. notebook is rarely mobile, stationary for 10 yrs. in my den, home moderate use.

HI Huffer:  Your right, natch been thinking about, it's a feature  the cdplyr. takes a beating, for laptops are mobile by user's nature , although thi big heavy one 9lbs. was bought for a stationary usage, at 9lbs. too heavey now  except to bring to the R/R for spc. udate-whatever, has been near destructible 9 yrs. or so....I luv it.

Now, replacement might be on soon...but momentarily can be 'pin' open, but might think that's a reciept for disaster.

Hoping for a miracle, oddly can't loc. easily a reject feature, not even assoc.  My Computer, & I have no CD plyr. soft-like Nero etc on this laptop.

If so, it wld. be nice to do it myself, just how might be a big challenge for a geriatric fellow, age 82 no less.   It's more et al a matter of convenience, the location that this unit is it.

But, then if it's going to cost seriously, cld. I buy a external unit, assoc with a USB.

I'm afraid to take 'it' to a & there are many great assoc. fix it shops near by, for they wld. entice me, esp. at Xmas time to purchase a newer technology maybe HP laptop.

I'll be honest with you, since onset days of PC's have been tinkering with PC's, software...can't recall the # of yrs., did everything myself.

But, this HP laptop, I'd never want to depart with it, it has 'been fantastic', a real true blue machine...big, heavy, said indestructable, very very satisfactory.

Now, I notice HP...offers, quite a terriffic clean up software free, & a great 'place to connect to, their 'sites' that is.

My 15 yr. old Lenovo, is more likely the [desktop] that needs replacement, but it to, although won't run a Win.10..properly, both on  O/S Win. H.Pre.7, such 'progress has been made in both tech - computer areas, it's mind boggling'.

I might look up the approach to install a HP-CD player, where can I purchase one.

I'm TO/ON. Canada

I luv.  H.P....truly a fantastic company, great products.

Have a good Xmas season, Kudos for the suggestion, right.

10 years. You can get a replacement DVD burner for like 15 bucks. I sympathize but even a Mercedes-Benz can need the dome light replaced after 10 years, you know. Parts can only last so long.

Its one screw. Remove a screw, slide out the old drive slide in the new and you are done. DVD burners have plummeted in price as nobody cares about them any more. I am sure you can get an actual internal drive for a fraction the cost of a good external usb device. And nice to see you gave yourself the Solution. Thanks for that.
