I started using DTS Sound only recently. I'm finding that whatever I tweek or adjust - it doesn't make any difference.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong or I'm not doing something right.

I wonder if there is a User Guide somewhere.

@BobRV

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand you need information on using the DTS Studio sound,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you ensure your speaker is set to default?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Run Playing Audio Troubleshooter.

Please follow the steps given below to run the Playing Audio troubleshooter.

a) Press Windows key + W key on your desktop.
b) Write Troubleshooting in the search box on the upper right hand corner.
c) Select the Troubleshooting option obtained after the search.
d) Select View all option from the left panel.
e) Select Playing Audio option.
f) Click on Next to perform the Playing Audio troubleshooter and follow the steps.

Perform the task mentioned below to set headphones as default:

  • On the start screen of windows 8 press the ‘Windows key + X’ key on the keyboard and then click on control panel and then Hardware and sound option.

  • Click on Sound, then a new window will open up.

  • In the new window click on the "Playback" tab and right click on the window and click on Show Disabled devices.

  • Now check if headphones are listed there and right click on it and choose enable.
  • Highlight that headphones and click on "Set as Default".

If the issue persists, Please Click here to download the latest version of the DTS Sound controller after uninstalling the current software/driver from the control panel.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

My default is 'Speakers - Realtek High Definition Sound'. Nothing showed under 'Disabled devices'.

'Playing Audio Troubleshooter' found no problems.

I can't uninstall\re-install because I can't find the current software anywhere to uninstall it.

Actually I know that DTS SOUND is located in C:\SWSETUP\SP69773\DTS Sound Software_HP.exe

But it can't be uninstalled or deleted from there. The downloaded file is also sp69773 & is the same version as the currently installed file. It will not install or overwrite the current file.

@BobRV

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

The file available under SWSETUP is a backup of the original driver and doesn't represent the existing driver in anyway,

You may want to recover the original drivers using the HP Recovery Manager: Click here for instructions.

Also, once you uninstall the driver from the device manager, you should be able to install the latest version from the HP website.

Let me know how that pans out

Thanks. I have to take some time out to catch up on other things, but meanwhile ~

If I can find the backup file in SWSETUP - why can't I find the 'real' file?

When I try to install the downloaded file (which is the same version number as the SWSETUP file) the Installation Wizard stops & tells me that the file already on my computer is the SWSETUP file. It doesn't mention any other file.

In Device Manager I don't find any mention of DTS Sound or SP69773.

Hi,

as @Riddle_Decipher is out of the office today, I'm replying to you.  I truly appreciate your efforts and patience.

The real file needs to be reinstalled from the recovery partition. You may recover the original drivers using the HP Recovery Manager: Click here for instructions.

The DTS Sound or SP69773 will may not appear in the device manager.

Hope this helps. Cheers! 🙂

In both HP Recovery Manager and HP Support - Software & Drivers, there is no mention of HP DTS  Studio Sound nor of SP69773.

Please comment further.

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As mentioned earlier, DTS Studio is not the driver, it's a software built into or preinstalled with the Audio driver,

Hence you should look for the audio driver and not the DTS Studio, that said, Please retry the steps suggested earlier with that in mind.

Also, to help your cause, I've looked for the audio driver on the HP website: Click here to download and install the same (Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver), Once you've uninstalled the audio driver under the section: Sound, video and game controllers - Right-Click on all options listed under it and select uninstall (delete the driver).

It took you guys an awful long time to come around to Realtek HD Audio. I already know that it is my primary Audio Driver.

In HP ... Drivers it says ~

Version: 1.20 Rev.A   Release date: Nov 21, 2014

File name: sp69624 (225 MB)

My current Driver details are ~

Version: 6.01.1.7730  Release date: 2016-01-26

File name: sp69624 (610 MB)  created June 1, 2016

I get automatic HP & Windows updates, so I'm confident that my Drivers are up to date.

My Realtek Driver seems to be more current & is a much larger size, & it is working fine, so why should I mess with downloading\installing what appears to be an older, smaller version?

I use another Driver - AMD HD Audio Device - which is my HDMI connection to TV.

When I'm using either Driver for video, or Realtek for Music, DTS Sound is active in that a volume change works & it changes the volume in the Speaker icon slide bar. Conversely when I change the Speaker icon volume that changes the volume in DTS Sound. But there are several other ways to adjust volume anyway.

But in both video & music the DTS 'Enhancements' - Music, Voice, Movie - don't change anything.

So right now I'm back to the beginning & getting nowhere.
