I actually got it working  by doing this solution followed by a Windows 11 repair.  Deleting the driver from the Sound, video and game controllers appears to have been needed in my case and the repair reinstalled it.  All is good now.

I have exactly the same problem. I followed the steps explained above, and initially I had some success - the slider controls started working again, though the speaker volume was much more quiet (too low) than originally. Also, there was a Realtek message telling me to restart Windows 11 to complete the update. After the restart, the original problem was back - maximum speaker volume can't be adjusted.
