I recently uninstalled the built-in Microphone Array driver on my HP Pavilion Plus 14 laptop because it was causing some issues and wasn't working properly. I thought removing the driver might help fix the problem, so I uninstalled it through Device Manager. However, after doing that, I realized that my laptop no longer has any functioning microphone at all. The built-in microphone is gone, and I don't have any other microphone devices available to use.

I've already tried checking my audio settings, but I still can't get any microphone input. I'm not sure how to restore the original Microphone Array driver or get my microphone working again. Does anyone know what I should do to reinstall the driver or recover the built-in microphone functionality on an HP Pavilion Plus 14?

Hi @rakannn

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your HP Pavilion 14 laptop is currently experiencing an issue where the built‑in microphone array is not being detected. This means the system is unable to recognize or utilize the internal microphones, which can affect audio input during calls, recordings. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Step 1: Check Microphone Privacy Settings

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Privacy & Security > Microphone.
  • Make sure:
  • Microphone access is on.
  • Let apps access your microphone be on.
  • Scroll down and ensure apps like Voice Recorder, Zoom, or Teams are allowed.

Step 2: Enable and Show Hidden Input Devices

  • Right-click the sound icon → Sound settings → scroll to *Input → More sound settings.
  • In the Recording tab, right-click inside the list → check Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.
  • If you see Microphone Array or Internal Microphone, right-click it → Enable → Set as Default Device.

Step 3: Reset Windows Audio Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, press Enter.
  • Find these three services:
  • Windows Audio
  • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
  • Realtek Audio Service (if listed)
  • Right-click each → Restart.

Step 4: Test in Sound Control Panel

  • Press Windows + R, type mmsys.cpl, and press Enter.
  • Go to the Recording tab.
  • Right-click your microphone > Set as Default Device and Default Communication Device.
  • Speak into the mic—do the green bars move?

Step 5: Download Drivers from HP

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
