I had a Compaq Mini CQ10 lying around for quite some time and i decided to take it out and revive it. Since the HDD in there was dead, i had to fully replace it and decided to install the OS it was originally meant for: Windows XP.

This is where the problem begins: I have been fighting for almost 3 months with the problematic audio driver that doesn't even work with the HP's support official drivers. I have tried every avaible driver on the net, every installer i found and i had no luck. Also since i cannot replace the sound card (and i also i have no idea how to even do that), i'm stuck with this problem that has been bothering me, and i want this machine to be in fully working state with all drivers working appropiately. Help would be highly appreciated.

Model: Compaq Mini CQ10-120LA.

Hi:

What XP service pack did you install?

If it was SP2 or older, you first have to install the MSUAA driver, restart the PC and then install the IDT audio driver.

Microsoft Windows XP SP1/SP2 Universal Audio Architecture Update (Q888111)

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32001-32500/sp32395.exe

HP retired support for your PC since it is more than 10 years old, but you can get the IDT audio driver from this reputable 3rd party website:

HP Compaq Mini CQ10-120LA PC IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver v.5.10.6217.0 Rev. A v.5.10.6217....

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Now that you fixed the audio, I recommend you update XP to Service Pack 3.

You can download the SP3 update from this reputable link below.

The big green download button on the upper left side of the page.

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download

Other XP updates can be manually installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog website:

Microsoft Update Catalog

Thanks again for your help.

About the SP3 update, i don't really trust CNET and also i already have 3 spare executables with the service packs handy.

Anyways, thanks!

You're very welcome.

It's good that you are one of the few folks that save those files because Microsoft no longer offers the service packs as a download from their site, and as you can see from the Microsoft Update Catalog, they have very few XP updates available anymore.

Before I gave you that link, I downloaded the SP3 file from CNET to make sure it was 100% safe to install.

There's actually a spanish site that hosts those service packs.
