After recent updates, system sound icon shows "No Audio Output Device is Installed". There is an alert symbol on the "Intel High Definition Audio" device in the device manager. I've attempted to update the driver but none is available. I've removed the drivers for both the Intel High Definition Audio and Video devices, rebooted, and still no problem resolution. The Windows trouble shooter cannot resolve the problem. Help!

@Roadsteel, welcome to the forum.
Did you try to install the audio driver here? It is from 2016, but it is the only driver available.

Hi, @Roadsteel
The Intel HD audio device is installed by the Intel graphics driver.
See if reinstalling the Intel graphics driver resolves the problem.
21.20.16.4627 Rev.G

If that doesn't get the Intel audio driver to install automatically, try manually installing the driver as follows...
Go to the device manager and click on the problem Intel HD Audio device.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp81292.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC.

I confirmed that this is the correct driver for this laptop, but when I attempted to install it, I got an error message saying that "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." The driver version currently installed for the display adapter is 22.20.16.4815. The driver you suggested is 21.20.16.4627. Any other ideas?

Hi:
You may have a different issue than what I originally thought it was.
See if this recent document from HP is of help to you...

I'm having the same problem. The HP soljution didn't help. I uninstalled the drivers and took the other steps. But the faulty driver continues to reappear after I scan for hardware changes or reboot my laptop.

After 3 days of struggling, my audio came back on soon after I posted my message. I went back once again to delete the faulty drivers with the exclamation point, and it wasn't there. I scanned for hardware changes, and it didn't come back. And the red "x" on the speaker was gone. I still didn't have sound, but I rebooted. Still no sound, but with a a click on troubleshooting, and a long wait, the sound came back!
So maybe just keep trying to delete the faulty driver, and the higher level as indicated in HP's advice, If it doesn't work the first time, maybe for some reason it will if you try it one or more time. I really don't know what I did that did it, but somehow the issue resolved itself.

Hi,
Microsoft installed intel sound driver couse your realtech sound card doesn't work properly. So you have to unstall the driver with software and install realtech sound driver and you are done.
