Chrome OS

The internal microphone on our 11-v033nr Chromebook is not working. We've tried it with Google Meet and also with an online voice recorder. There is a speaker icon on the task bar (bottom right) that looks like it has a line through it but the speaker works fine. When I move the mouse over that icon it shows "select to speak". Google Meet and the online voice recorder are both set to "Allow" in the Chrome browser microphone settings.

Thank You

@PJ1949 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the microphone is not working correctly.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

It's possible that it was blocked by Chrome and the reason it's not working. To find the settings navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Content Settings and check the permissions. Make sure your Bluetooth setting isn't on. Just turned it off and check.

If the issue still persists,  perform the Factory reset your Chromebook

  1. Sign out of your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r.
  3. Select Restart.
  4. In the box that appears, select Powerwash and then Continue.
  5. Follow the steps that appear and sign in with your Google Account.
Note: The account you sign in with after you reset your Chromebook will be the owner account.
  6. Once you've reset your Chromebook:

Parveen,

Thank you for your reply. I contacted support two days after posting this question and they walked me through the steps that you described. That did not work and the Chromebook has been returned for repair.

Thanks again

Joe

I had the exact same issue, and I finally found a fix! Since it’s a bug issue I switched the operating channel, and the microphone works perfectly fine now.

Open Settings

Select “About Chrome OS” from left column

Select “Additional Details”

Select “Change Channel”

Change from “Stable” to “Beta”

After system updates and restarts the microphone should work perfectly fine!
