@KFF68 I have a few steps to help you out:

The Troubleshooting tool automatically finds and fixes many computer issues. Use it to troubleshoot microphone problems.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

  2. Click Troubleshooting.

  3. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio recording.

    NOTE:

Administrator permission is required to run this program. If prompted, type the administrator password or provide confirmation.

  4. The Sound troubleshooter opens. Click Next. The troubleshooter begins checking the audio service status.

  5. Select the device you want to troubleshoot, and then click Next.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions and make any changes suggested by the troubleshooter. When done, close the troubleshooter.

  7. If the problem persists, continue to the next step.

We may need to reset the privacy settings for the Microphone if the issue occurred after any recent windows updates:

  1. Open Settings from your start menu.
  2. Click on Privacy in order to access all your privacy settings.
  3. Select Microphone from the left pane and then click the Change button.
  4. Now, turn on the microphone for this device.
  5. Turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.
  6. Finally, in the app list, make sure to turn on microphone access for every app you want to give permission to access your microphone.
  7. Repeat the same exact steps but for your webcam this time.

If the issue persists, uninstall the microphone driver and restart to automatically install a fresh driver for the same.

  1. Open device manager, the fastest way is through the search bar:
  2. Open ‘Audio Inputs and Outputs’
  3. Left-click on your recording device.
  4. In the menu that opens up Click ‘Uninstall’.
  5. delete the driver. click apply/OK and then, restart the pc.

I tried all of the options that you listed and nothing is working, and when I run troubleshoot it just says that it doesn't recognize the problem. I've tried it all and when I go to the settings to see if the built-in mic is recognized it isn't. when I say this I mean my voice isn't recognized but if I try to use skype it'll say it's using my mic but it won't work. I'm kinda losing all hope here.

@Ziggy_Be_Me If you've ensured the the device isn't on mute (now, i know that may sound aggravating, but sometimes the basics help resolve the issue) so, please try the below steps:

The volume for the microphone might be muted or turned down, making the computer appear unresponsive to the microphone. Use the following steps to check the speaker volume levels for the microphone.

Unplug all other sound devices before performing this step.

  1. From the Recording tab of the Sound window, select an active microphone, then click Properties.

    Figure : Recording tab

    Recording tab
  2. The Microphone Properties window opens.

  3. Click the Levels tab.

    Figure : Levels tab

    Levels tab
  4. If the Mute  button is on, click it to turn off mute. The Volume button should show as a blue speaker without the red circle  .

  5. Use the slider bar to raise the Microphone level to at least 75.

  6. If Microphone Boost is available, adjust to +20.0 dB.

  7. Click OK.

If the microphone volume is too low, then the microphone levels in Windows might need to be changed. Follow the steps in this section to resolve the issue:

  1. Click the Recording tab.

  2. Select the microphone, then click Properties.

Figure : Recording tab in the Sound window

Recording tab in the Sound window
  3. Click the Levels tab.

  4. Change the microphone level to 100 and the Microphone Boost to +10.0dB.

Levels tab in the Microphone Properties window
  5. Click Apply.

  6. Disconnect and reconnect the microphone.

  7. Check the microphone recording level.

the issue persists,

Use Voice Recorder to find out if the computer can record a signal from the microphone and play it back. Use the following steps to create an audio file:

  1. Plug the microphone into the computer.

  2. In Windows 10, search for and open Voice Recorder.

    The recorder opens.

    Figure : Voice Recorder window

    Voice Recorder window
  3. Click the microphone icon to start the recording. Then, speak into the microphone.

  4. When finished recording, click Stop Recording in the center of the blue circle.

    Stop recording
  5. Right-click Recording, then select Open file location.

    Figure : Open file location

    Open file location

The recording is automatically saved to Sound recordings in your Documents folder.

  6. Double-click the filename of your recording. When the Groove Music app opens, click the Play icon ( ) to listen to the recording.
