Since a long while ago I've been having some weird issues with audio on my HP Netbook.

Whenever I listen to audio on anything that has a separate volume slider (e.g. Youtube videos or iTunes) the volume is always at maximum. If I slide the slider back to minimum the sound slowly crawls back up to maximum while the slider stays down at minimum.

Strangely this only seems to happen when using headphones/earbuds. I tried recreating it without headphones but it does not appear when using the laptop speakers. I also tried changing earbuds/headphones but to no avail, the sound kept playing on maximum volume.

Also to make clear, the windows volume sliders work just fine. When at minimum the sound stays at minimum. It's only on separate volume sliders that are embedded in programs themselves.

Thank you for replying,

The program is supposed to have all the options available to choose from if they aren't available

you will need to uninstall the program and install a different or newer version to resolve the issue,

I have two links for you, try one after the other, in case the first softpaq doesn't do the trick:

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand there is a Loud volume on non-windows volume sliders,

Don't worry as I have a few steps to help resolve this concern,

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.
  • Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.
  • Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.
  • Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.
  • Right-click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.
  • Select the Communications tab up the top.
  • By default ‘when windows detect communications activity’ is set to ‘Reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%’.
  • Change this to ‘Do nothing’.
  • Press OK.

Let me know how that pans out,

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

I have tried your solutions but strangely I do not have an enhancements tab on my laptop. I've seen solutions before that included an Enhancements tab and I was always confused as to why I couldn't access it.

I always have the reduction of volume deactivated as I'm a frequent Skype/Discord user and it pained me to have to slide the volume back up after starting a called x3

Is there a specific reason as to why I can't access the Enhancements tab or do some computers/speakers just not have one?

I do however have Beats speakers in my laptop. It comes with it's own separate sound manager program. I tried looking around a little but couldn't find anything that remotely resembled what I should find in the standard windows settings.

@Julliath

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

the enhancement options are part of your driver and if it isn't available,

we need to follow a few steps to get it working again:

Start with deleting the Audio driver from the device manager,

Then go to the official HP Website and download the audio drivers,

once installed, restart the computer and check for the options as it should be available now.

I am a little confused as to which driver I'm supposed to delete. I found two drivers which come down to the same.

I have included a screenshot of my device manager and selected the one I assume is the one I need to reinstall.

Could you confirm that this is indeed the right one?

The one I selected reads: "Speaker/Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio"

The one I got confused with is the one named: "Realtek High Definition Audio" in the second drop down menu that is open.

I went ahead and deleted the one i had selected as I realised it was the one we had been discussin all along.

After installing and restarting the audio driver (Which has now properly reappeared in the device manager.

However there is still no tab that says "Enhancements" and the issue still persists.

@Julliath

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

The screenshot helps a lot in such scenarios and I thank you for that.

You will need to delete them both if there is more than one as the other is a duplicate causing the issue.

Also if you don't use the stereo mix, you could disable it, in most cases the stereo mix causes issues such as echoing, etc...

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

I just deactivated the Stereo-Mix, uninstalled my drivers and installed the one from the HP website but the problem still presists and I still don't have an "Enhancements" tab in my sound options.

Also, if I disable/delete the Audio driver I mentioned in the second drop down list my audio stops working alltogether, so deleting that one is a no go.

I just started messing around a little more in the Beats Audio control panel and noticed a feature called "Multi-Streaming" which was deactivated. I activated it and all of a sudden the problem seems to be gone. All sliders now work properly.

However, all the sound suddenly starts to sound very dull, and a second "Audio track" so to say has appeared in my Volume Mixer. I'll post some screenshots of what I'm talking about.

The option in the Beats audio menu:
